Perscription Tampons

One week ago, a day before leaving, I went on a Tampon search through the city of Cajamarca. I looked high and low in over 5 different farmacias only to find endless displays of Pads. Finally, I came across a farmacia that had two small boxes of tampons. I discussed the purchase with the pharmacist, who probably had never sold a box of tampons in her life, before she sent me to the checkout window with a bill in hand. I grudgingly pulled out the $6 (the most expensive item in Peru) and handed it to the boy at the checkout counter. He held the box of tampons as if it were a foreign object and asked the girl next to him, "Can I sell these without a perscription?"
